Welcome to the United Church of Church of Christ Office of Communications (UCC OC Inc.) June 2019 email update.

Sign up for our UCC OC Inc. Service Activity at General Synod in Milwaukee

Are you coming to the UCC's General Synod? Want to get hand-on experience helping others access technology? Join us for an afternoon service activity with Digital Bridge on Saturday afternoon June 22nd in Milwaukee.

Volunteers will learn about Digital Bridge which repurposes digital devices and gives them to individuals who do not have access to computers. We will help prepare computers for future donations. No experience needed. Also Cheryl Leanza will be there to talk about UCC OC Inc.'s advocacy to ensure low-income people have access to modern communications.

Learn more and sign up for our Digital Bridge activity.

Or you can sign up by emailing the local committee directly.  Include in your email the number of adults and youth (over age 14) that would like to attend.

Check out 3 quick things.....

1. Help Save the Lifeline Program

Lifeline is the most comprehensive and effective federal program that bridges the home-internet affordability gap for low-income families. The FCC wants to roll back the program, eliminating phone and internet access for individuals who cannot afford anything else.  Learn more and find out what you can do to help save the Lifeline program.

2. Support the 10thAnniversary of the Center for Media Justice

This people-of-color led organization works at the grassroots, focusing on cutting edge technology, privacy, and media accountability issues. To help this amazing organization celebrate, consider sending a contribution.

3. Stop Big Media

Read Cheryl Leanza’s recent blog post that explains the legal steps that UCC OC Inc. is taking to block federal rules that permit increased consolidation in television, radio, and newspapers in local communities.

The 2019 Parker Lecture is scheduled for Monday, October 17 in Washington DC.  More details will follow, but please note this date on your calendar.
