Media Violence Fast 2016

Dear Supporter,

Tomorrow is the UCC's second annual Just Peace Sunday--the Sunday before the International Prayers for Peace Day. The United Church of Christ began its Just Peace Movement in 1985.

The Just Peace Pronouncement and resulting church movement has at its core a call to alleviate systemic injustice of all kinds using non-violence, challenging us to explore the intersections between peace and justice, offering to the world the prophetic message, grounded in the hope of reconciliation in Jesus, that “Peace is possible!”

The media is part of our structure to achieve justice -- through it we can learn, organize, reflect and act. But the media can be a tool of oppression, violence and hatred too. As you use this week to abstain from violent media, take some time to use the Internet to learn about the UCC's Just Peace movement and network and take a moment to share the reflections and images of justice on the Just Peace web site, Facebook and on Twitter.   And don't forget the media fast on UCC OC Inc.'s Facebook page and on Twitter using the hashtag #UCCMediaFast.

Fasting with you in Just Peace,

UCC's media justice ministry, OC Inc.
